There have been a few nights this past week when I haven't made it to bed until 4am or so. Usually this indicates that there has been a shipment of Alias dvds turn up from Netflix. This time, I was not quite so sad.
If you come here regularly, you will have noticed the face lift that has occurred. I've wanted to do this for so long now & am pretty happy with the results. (It could be better, but why carry on about your weaknesses?) The transformation was done in GIMP, the Open Source, freely available image manipulation software. I really cant say enough good stuff about GIMP since it helped me move from this old header -
To the one you see today. I think it was well worth losing a few hours sleep over :)
I have been using the fabulous book "Beginning GIMP" by Akkana Peck, to learn enough to jazzy up this blog. This terrific book seems to be the best out there in terms of comprehensiveness & usability. I have such a small amount of experience with imagine manipulation programs, all in the photography realm, & this book helped me apply my knowledge to this illustration, of sorts.
If you've wanted to do experiment with this sort of stuff but not known where to start, you could do alot worse that grabbing the book, installing the software & grabbing hold of your mouse. You don't need any more than that to start (besides the computer, which I am assuming you have in front of you)
