A quick recap of the past few days before moving onto todays news. I'm so tired from going to work so early & returning so late that I dont get a chance to do this as often as I'd like.
Early Thursday morning (3am) the ceiling on our bedroom burst open & water started streaming through it. The noise was so loud it woke us from sleep. We didnt have enough containers in the house to deal with the amount of water - Kynan was in the kitchen chopping the tops off all the Coke & orange juice bottles he could find. We rang the council, but was told no one could get there until the morning because the on-call people dont have keys to the boiler room. Lambeth Council are a model of efficiency.
Kynan stayed home to fight the Battle of the Boiler, & a very long story ended with the pump being turned off & most of the dripping stopping in our flat. Apparently the pump had ruptured since last time we looked at it & was now pouring water onto the floor. The dripping continued for a day or so until the concrete in the ceiling was dry. We have to get the carper cleaned & take some photos for the landlord. He's going to fight to ther death with the Council over the repair/cleaning costs.
Just as a side note - the boiler repair people also used the stairs. At no stage in the repair process did anyone use the scaffolding that "must go up because it is procedure" & that held up the repair process for a week longer than neccessary. (Another example of cutting edge efficiency) Infact, the only person to go on the scaffolding was Kynan when he went up there last week to see how dire the problem was.
It is wonderful to be able to walk around the flat again without being rained on.
The absolutely huge news for the day is that Kynan's contract has been extended for 6 months. Along with meaning we can continue to pay rent in our soggy flat, we will also have the funds to pay off our house in Australia by the time this contract is over. BLOODY AWESOME. Then it's onto enjoying some European travel. Thank to my lovely boyfriend for working in a shitty job for a year to give us a good financial start at home. Love youXOXO
