Today we trundled of to San Francisco with our friends Sarah & Andrew (One of their Australian mates came along for the day, but as I have only met him once, his name escapes me. It takes three meetings usually, before I have a handle on new names - he might have been Dave, or John. Whatever.) The initial idea was to go & ensconce ourselves in a bar & watch the Superbowl, after a bowl of hearty clam chowder down at Fishermans Wharf. You know, participate in an American ritual & drink a beer or two. We got the food bit right - a lovely, creamy clam chowder (which our lactose intolerant mate chowed down ignoring all possible consequences) at the fab-o Boudin Bakery. Kynan went for the chilli bowl as he is a friend to those who live in the sea. He assured me it was lovely & completely devoid of any marine flavour.
So here were the problems - 1) Sarah & Andrew had seen the Superbowl last year & so had already been through this experience. 2) Kynan, being the ethically sound individual that he is, was not keen on watching something that is elongated with the express intention of pumping more adverts into the cosmos. 3) None of us understand, or particularly like football. 4) Five hours (with 50 ads - YES 50!) is a bloody long time to waste watching something to dont really want to watch. Derrr. Sarah had found out about the Queen Mary 2 arriving at San Francisco Harbour that afternoon. It was a pretty big deal & had the San Francisco press buzzing as it was the largest ship to enter the habour in shipping history. (Go here to see & hear it in all it's 1980's dodgy wedding video glory) Besides, it was much nicer to sit by the Bay, chat & wait for the Queen. Even if she was an hour late.
And I finished a scarf. Yah for me. No photos as the scarf is a gift. I'll post then later. You'll just have to wait. Another Irish Hiking Scarf enters the world. I suspect her new owner has long since stopped checking to see if I have updated my blog - so here she is in her pink gorgeousness. She is made from Debbie Bliss Alpaca silk DK knitted with a merino mohair whose name escapes me. She is deliciously fluffy & not at all scratchy. I'm thinking of cranking one of these out for myself in tangerine (my colour choice de jour)
