Tit Bits

What did I do this afternoon, you ask? I knitted a breast for my Grandma.

I was poking about on the internet, looking for something quick & easy to occupy my fingers for the afternoon, when I came across - titbits.ca . Having been fortunate enough (*touch wood*) to not have breast cancer (yet), I had never given prosthetic breasts much of a thought. Having done a bit of reading on the site, I understand that shoving a plastic chicken breast down your bra is not the biggest boost to ones self esteem. (And when, may I ask, do you need more of a boost to your self esteem than when you are teeing off against the bastard we like to call breast cancer?) On top of that, they can be too light, too heavy, to hard, irritate your skin or mastectomy scar & generally make you feel more shithouse that you probably already do.

"ENOUGH!" said Beryl Tsang (founder of titbits.ca) , who couldn't find anything to make her feel attractive on her first outing since her diagnosis. She put her stash & her skills to good use & came up with a pattern. The pattern I followed.

I was inspired - what a cool thing to make for someone, a genuine way of saying "I care about how you are feeling" - I picked up some double pointed needles & some beautifully soft Blue Sky Alpaca Cotton left over from Autumns snuggly jumper & began working away. In two hours I went from this:

to this:

(note: peircing in nipple optional & only there to make my grandma laugh)

It is squishy & can be moulded into various sizes. It it hollow at the back & so wont rub or press against the skin. It's washable & you can whip them up in loads of nifty colours. I still have a some extra yarn left over so give me a yell if you'd like one made up, all I need to know is a cup size.
