The adventuring begins

Kynans first full weekend off this year was a huge success. We have recently started a list of all the things we would like to see in London before we go (not that we have an idea of when we might be going, but we thought it was important to get as many things onto the list as we thought of them. We dont want to go home & have someone say "Did you go to ***?. It's awesome, you should have gone"

So, this weekend we went off to the
Science Museum & the Natural History Museum. The Science museum was a funny mix of ultra new exhibits & rooms that time had forgotten. Exhibitions ranging from space aged LED physics to video monitor so dusty they have been tagged with "wash me".

We were lucky enough to get to go & see the
Pixar Exhibition that had started that week. Pixar, for those who dont know, is the company that was responsible for the production of Monsters Inc, Toy Story, The Incredibles, Finding Nemo etc. They have been long regarded as the most kickarse animaton studio in the world (recently aquired by the much less kickarse Disney)
Initially I was worried that the exhibition would be all techno - CAD graphics, wired frame work etc, but I was oh so pleasantly surprised to discover that it was mostly devoted to the artwork. There were hundreds of doodles, story boards, models & drawings of exceptional quality. Dont let the shitty Buzz Lightyear drawing they have chosen to advertise the exhibition put you off. It was well worth the 9 pounds entrance fee.

An added bonus of the place is that it has the most tremendous bookshop dealing with science & mathematics. The kind of place you walk into & wish you had access to a much larger bank account.

The Natural History museum is housed in a beautiful buildng next to the Science museum. At the time we visited we didnt realise it was school hoidays & so was more crowded than I had the strength for. We were there to see the
Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition. And what a fabulous exhibition it is. Stunning images collected from all over th world. I was surprised to find only 1 entrant from Australia. I would have thought we had a fairly significant slice of beautiful wildlife availbale to photograph. If you love photography & have a spare hour or two this week, I'd urge you to try & get there. It closes on the 23rd of April. If you dont manage to make it, Wildlife Photographer of 2006 opens in October.
