Spitalfields Markets

I went off to work with Kynan last weekend. We broke for lunch & headed off to Spitalfields Markets for lunch. It is around the corner from Broadgate (where Kynan is working) & it is a fabulous area that mixes old with new. It has been a market area for hundreds of years & it is only recently - due in large part to the expansion of the City area - that it has been the site of major redevelopment. So you have 100 year old pie shops living right next to swanky apartment buildigns, courtyards with public artworks connected by a maze of narrow winding roadways.

It's a fabulous area & I am glad we have found it (as I suspect there are any places like this in London that you wouldn't know about unless you stumbled across them)

There will be many, many more pics of this area in my blog over time. But to start there are a couple of our favourite place to eat. A gourmet pie shop that operates from inside the market area. The pies are just delicious & one pie with mash & peas is enough to feed 2. If you're in London, I'd recommend getting there asap!

Mmmmmmmmm, mousaka pie!
