A couple of hours with my Brother

When we first moved to America I knew I wanted to get a sewing machine. Learning to sew has been something on my annual "not resolutions, just some things I would like to accomplish" list. I jumped onto Amazon.com as soon as we got here & ordered the cheapest the machine that most suited my needs.

I unpacked it last night - yes, 5 months after it arrived - & got down to getting to know my Brother 2600i.

To be honest, I don't think I could deal with a machine with many more features than this one has. I learnt on an ancient hand-me-down from my mum (& it was probably handed down to her too) & this is a comfortable jump up. It even does button holes!!! ...now I just need to learn how to do them ;)

And here are the results of a couple of hours with my Brother (notice how much of a distance I took them from!). Two knitting needle rolls (that are ear-marked as gifts). I managed them okay, but anyone good at sewing would spot the glaring errors in my construction of the pieces. I've decided that I will try & stretch myself each time I make something new. I have already started this with my knitting (and now I can cable, seam correctly & cast-on in multiple ways). So my next project is a quilt. Planning is in progress for this one. It's going to be quite a challenge for someone who struggles to sew straight for more than 5cms!
