Firstly, Happy Australia Day! I forgot about it until about 4pm, when an Irish guy at work passed on his greetings. I even missed the Hottest 100 ~ but found out that Bernard Fanning had walked away with the honours.
This morning I got up & travelled out to Staines (the unattractrively named town whre my job interview was). I was looking great in my new suit & feeling relatively confident - that was until I took the test. I was fairly certain I was bumming out from the first question. If I had an encyclodedic knowledge of commands & switches, that still would have only got me half way. I am ashamed to say I got 30 - something % on the technical exam. Nothing more to be said about that really. That was pretty crappy, but the crappiest thing was yet to come. They actually handed me my test results (which made me want to cry) & then shuffled me along tohave an interview with the CEO & the head of Operations!
I just dont have the vocabulary to explain how crushed I felt at this time. I was actually trying to find thr HR woman to say "let's not worry about the interview. I think we both know we're wasting each others time".
Unfortuantely I couldn't locate her, & had to go through with the interview. I could see myself being VERY lack lustre - infact whern the CEO chirpily said "Is there anything ou'd ike to know about our company", I said "No. Not really". God.
Anyway. After half an hours cry on the train on the way back, I decided I am not applying for any more IT jobs until I knwo a bit more. I'm going to try & have this experience make me stronger. But, just for today, I am going to wallow in a bit of self pity.
